Can I Eat Your Dog? Please?

October 10, 2006 / by mmmhollywould

Okay I read Foul News and I have to say I agree with a lot of what they have to say and recently commented on a blog about the euthanization of animals.

I think it is a waste ad I do not think these shelters should be getting a ton of money to do it. It is a waste of a pet and, oh wait, a food source. Yes a food or fur source.

Now before you freak out. There are at least two cultures that I know of that do eat dog. Dogs are eaten in parts of East and Southeast Asia. There is nothing wrong with this. Cows are not eaten in India (or taken care of for that matter)

I think instead of wasting them we should butcher them and sell them or keep them alive in shelters for pets. I know nothing about the eating of cat meat so I say skin them and line coats with them for those that live where it is cold.

Perhaps some think that is cruel but guess what I think cows are great but I eat them. I also eat goose, rabbit, duck, chicken, pig and deer. Why is the dog exempt? You can keep any of these animals as pets.

I have a dog, a rabbit, a cat, a lizard, and a python. Would I eat them? No. Would I eat yours? If you cooked it just right 

Cows are taken care of in many parts of India... at least they are supposed to be, that is part of their culture. If they aren't doing it, it's because they are not adhering to their own philosophies. I have seen both situations... cows who are spoiled rotten and cows who wander the streets eating garbage.

I personally think eating dogs is unbiblical... [LOL] read leviticus! and think about what kind of crap they will eat, and worse yet, what is in dog food. [OHMY] even if I ate meat no way would I put that in my body! Dogs are naturally scavengers and garbage eaters. Eating any predatory animal is unhealthy, especially a domestic one raised on a cooked food diet. Yucky.

I think we should eat insect pests.

I personally think while I understand your thinking and it's pretty logical, actually, there is one point to consider: we anthropomorphize dogs and cats.

I do not keep pets except for two birds for this reason. I believe humans are humans and animals are animals, and I have no desire to live with them like they're my children. I respect animals but as ANIMALS not as "mini-me's". Although I also respect that other people do feel this attachment to animals.

So how would you feel if a total stranger ate your dog? Most pet owners would not be too thrilled, they would want to bury the animal like a proper friend.

Personally, I believe the greatest waste of all is the amount of land we are wasting to cultivate beef and pork, when we could be using it to grow high protein vegetable crops that create much less methane. Read Diet for a Small Planet.

I do however think we should consider eating insect pests. I would do it, even though I'm a veg, because they have to die anyway. Actually I wouldn't because I think it's gross, but I support it ethically. My husband tells me that shea tree grubs are the tastiest thing imaginable. [HUH]

The eating is not what bothers me. That's just culture. How they kill the animals is what disturbs me. Every year, millions of dogs and cats in Korea are tortured before they are killed for their meat. Many Koreans believe that the more pain suffered by the dogs, the more effective is the aphrodisiacal quality. Consequently, dogs are routinely hung live by the neck, beaten with pipes and hammers, and blow torched to brown their skin. Cats are placed in a sack, beaten, and then thrown live into boiling water with ginger and dates and cooked until they form a paste known as cat juice or goyangi soju. Many of the dogs are bred by dog farmers, and the cats are caught in crude wire traps. This is sick.

I think before we worry about the practices of another country we need to look in our own back yard. The piles of euthanised dogs that are not dead and thrown into a pile and cremated alive. The use of decompression chamber , just like tha nazis's used. What i have propsed is we make use of our waste here in the good ol' us of a. that is what a euthanised dog or cat is , waste. that my friends is where the money you donate to the humane society goes.

And to think it is a crime to shoot your own dog in the head? At least that is quick.
  • mmmhollywould said 1 years ago
Also , I do not think there is a good way to kill something. Air hammers, and drills for pigs and cows razor wire for chickens? all pretty morbid and not painless. I won't say korean's are right in their way but apparently they are putting in place some rules about it recently.

did you know we used to sell dead dogs to be rendered into dog food in the not to distant past. How is that for....canibalistic!
  • jungleray said 1 years ago
What about cows eating other cows?? mad cow disease started there...

actually eating pigs, because they are so close to us biologically, has the same documented ill health effects as does cannibalism. That is why just about every scientifically researched health-based diet out there restricts pork, it is not just about the trichonosis.

true - but when you aren't at that point, why not be civilized and treat your fellow sentient beings with respect? What is there to lose in that?

OK, I have to agree with Holly Would, why so much waste of natural resources as well as creating a costly expense for whoever is paying the bills on these euthaniza programs. That's without even touching on the potentially harmful effect of the residual poison. There is a continuing threat to the nation's birds of prey and other native species who could be accidentally poisoned after feeding on the carcasses of euthanized animals. That's right, animals euthanized at veterinary clinics or animal shelters could contain enough residual poison to kill wild animals. How about that! And to make it even worse, the stability of the active form of Sodium Pentobarbital in a decomposing carcass is not known and the drug may retain the ability to kill for an extended period of time. Talk about endangering wildlife, while people are going hungry and income is being lost! So now not only do you have a waste, you have a danger as well. Think about all the euthanized horses if this Horse Anti-Slaughter Act passes. Agh!

So, If I have a dog, a rabbit, a cat, a lizard, and a python. Would I eat them? No. But, would I eat yours? Well, I've eaten beef, pork, deer, elk, turtle, chicken, duck, goose, rabbit, squirrel, raccoon, turtle, alligator, a multitude of species of fish, buffalo, quail, dove, pigeon, peafowl, egret, guinea, shrimp, crawfish, snail, turkey, goat, sheep, emu, frog, and probably as many others that I can't remember right now. Whatever the land produces may be eaten, according to Leviticus 25:7, so who am I to say otherwise. Pass the catsup please.

Interesting. Although upon first glance, it seems logical, it is a "Modest Proposal" type of argument and if implemented would be detrimental, in my opinion. It's slippery slope. Before you know it, puppies are really the most tender so let's kill them a little early, eh? Then, it will just get out of hand. We as a culture are greedy and before you know it, there would be dog and cat farms and it's just too sad for me. Sarah (Jungleray) is right also that we anthropomorphosize our pets. I do! I adore my cats because I feel a connection with them. It's very easy to do this with cats and dogs, as they have many wonderful qualities. Probably more so than with some other farm animals (although I choose not to eat ANY of them). This leads to me to have such a shocked respoonse. I also question that humans have the right to take the life of anything they please, just because it suits them. As it stands now, we'll basicalIy kill and eat anything we want. Veal and lamb is terribly disturbing to me. If you really think about all the pain happening needlessly, it's very sad. I liken the eating of animals to slavery in a way. We're talking about lives here - not just hunks of flesh. On the other hand, many people don't believe animals have lives or any purpose. My sister thinks that God made animals for our consumption. I disagree, except for in cases of those encountering extreme poverty and there is nothing else to consume. The fact is, there is plenty more to eat (for most of us - in the USA). However, I agree, again, with Sarah that we are destroying our land and air so that we can destroy animals. Again, we kill, consume and destroy everything! For what? Tastebuds? There's plenty more to eat! We have the reverse of the Midas touch! My husband's parents raised pigs from tiny newborns and fed them with a human baby bottle. He than watched them be killed. He says that if a person chooses to eat meat, they should first watch how it gets to the plate. Anyway, I have strayed from the original topic. Sorry. I better just shush now. [BLUSH] Thanks for such an thought-provoking post. [SMILE][HEART]

so instead of humanely euthenizing animals, you recomment ... just eating them? I think eating animals is hippocritical for most people... most people don't have it in them to kill something, skin it, pluck it, whatever, then wash off the blood to cook it. Most people, not all... To me, it's just scary when people can actually do that! I understand people who need to eat killing an animal, I agree with Dav1d on that one, but when it's not necessary, why?

Also, if you want to talk about wasteful, cats and dogs in shelters are very minor... think about this - if we stopped raising farm animals soley for "food" we would have enough grain to feed the world. True story! We would have no need to eat dogs, wasteful or not...

And finally... when I die, i don't want to be beaten to a pulp then skinned or boiled alive. I know you are into the S&M type stuff so you are different, but I do believe I am in the majority with how I DON'T want to die.

I think animals deserve respect, bottom line. They feel and dream and love life just like we do...
